The 66th Annual Five-Day Vets Tournament is being held at the Taupo Golf Club from October31-November 4.

This grand Annual Event on the Taupo Vets Calender commences attracted 80 men playing match play on both courses. The top two Groups of 16 play on Centennial and the other three groups of 16 play on Tauhara. Forty-nine women in two divisions play a stableford competitio­n on the Tauhara course at the same time. The naming sponsor is Husk Halligan of Tremaines Realty, and along with other valued sponsors, he makes this tournament possible. The tournament was not held in 2021 due to Covid-19.

The organising committee is headed by Tom Sainsbury and ably assisted by previous organiser Dave Mansell and an enthusiast­ic committee that includes Les Wraight, Ross Cory, Ted Swanney, and President Neil. Meanwhile, last week Taupo Vets recorded a smaller number of starters on Centennial due to the weather forecast for the Robyn Hocking Mugs teams of four stableford competitio­n.

First placed team was Smells like Chicken, comprised of Warren Coventry, Ted Swanney, AD de Groot and Bob Burns, with an aggregate stableford of 123. Second place was Craig Greenwood, Tim Paterson, Les Wraight and Richard Shearer with 103.

Third was the Dees and G Team of Dick Fraser, Gordon Harvey, David Mansell and Denis Tito.

Best individual stableford scores were Tim Paterson 44, AD de Groot 41, Tich Snyman, and Ted Swanney 40, Bob Burns 38, Warren Coventry 37, Richard Hoadley 36, Geoff Burton and Dick Fraser 35 points, Vets President Neil Murley on 34. Craig Greenwood who also won the “Bottle’O” voucher.

Top Dogs Tom Sainsbury and Hayden Baker won a frozen chicken each after beating Rex Mathieson and Richard Dermer.
