Wednesday Walkers

-

We began from the Sea Scout hut at the bottom of Taharepa Rd. This is one of the few buildings along the lakefront which is more than 50 years old.

These wonderful locations with their view to die for, quite naturally, are constantly being improved. The ground floor of the hut itself is packed with kayaks and tiny boats of all kinds which always make for a party atmosphere when they are slid to the shore and launched onto the lake.

We set out beside the lake which was of the deepest blue, reflecting the rain clouds that hovered low above us.

As always, we kept an eye out for the bikes sharing this path as we numbered nearly 30 and made quite an obstacle for the two wheel travellers.

The bikers are always good natured however. In all the years of Wednesday Walkers all our encounters with cyclists on our paths have always been a time of friendly smiles.

We turned inland and moved through the streets of Richmond Heights and across the fields that surround this area.

We passed by the land to the east which is being readied for a new housing development.

The new supermarket will soon be surrounded by new housing as our town continues to expand.

The rain clouds moved away after only a few sprinkles.

This was the last of our afternoon walks. Starting this week we will set off at 9.30am in the morning. Wednesday Walkers contact number is 073773065.
