Animal rescue centre needs helpers

-

Locals who would like to a meet new people, make friends, or simply learn new skills are sought to join the team at CARE Animal Rescue and Op Shop.

Operations manager Helen Rabinska says there are a varied range of activities people can help with, but not all of them involve direct contact with animals. For instance, volunteers can help at the Op Shop.

“Many roles are available to suit everyone, and it's just three hours, once a week.”

She says the success of Taupō's only ‘no kill' animal rescue is driving a need for more volunteers to join the teams.

“The CARE Op Shop is essential as it funds our whole operation, being open seven days a week we are always busy.

“Kitten season is upon us and we are seeking animal lovers who are able to foster mums and kittens, orphans, litters of kittens or able to rehabilitate wild kittens.

“CARE will provide all the necessary equipment, food and vet care while the foster family provides a safe, nurturing, quiet environment for these little ones to thrive and grow.”

Animals usually stay for between two to six weeks.

Volunteers may also choose to help at the CARE Cattery which involves one two-hour shift per week, either in the morning or mid afternoon.

Anyone who would like to find out more may text Helen on 027 222 5776 or complete a volunteer form at the CARE Op Shop, 34 Nukuhau St. Open every day from 10am4pm (1pm close on Sundays).
