Qualilty Championship bowls

-

Joe Rowen (skip) / Annie Judge and Rick Whittaker (skip) / Judy Simmons will meet at the 2022/2023 Mixed Club Championship Pairs Final at the Taupō Bowling Club after a full weekend’s play on the club greens. Each won their respective semifinal matches on Sunday in a two-day contest that featured quality bowls.

Rowen and Judge beat Peter Sarelius/Kirste Byloo in their semifinal after a clear cut 21-8 success.

But Whitaker, who has won multiple club titles, combined well with newly joined and successful lawn bowler Janet Simmons to only just edge out Colin Haigh/Jan Hopkins 18-14 in a shot-for-shot thriller that could have gone either way.

Meanwhile in the First Windows and Doors Melbourne Cup Day three-bowl progressive triples, veteran Jack Giddy took the first

prize for skips, with Brian Rohloff earning second and Annie Judge third. Top prize for directors went to John Meleisea, David Beck second and Edith Hewett third. The winning prize for leads was won by

Priscilla McLean, with Richard Shearer second and Steve Dickens third.

Next weekend’s ‘on-green’ action features the men’s and women’s veteran club championship pairs.
