BOWLS ■ Quality Championship Bowls

It was club championship action at its best on the Taupō Bowling Club greens at the weekend, despite interruptions by the weather on day one.

The women’s veteran pairs championship final provided a nailbiting thriller that went right down to the wire with the title going to Janice Hopkins (sk) and Marlene Jordan who just edged out the slick combination of Liz Witton and Annie Judge to seal the title 11/10. Joe Rowen, in tandem with Rusty Petterson, won the veteran men’s club championship final for 2022/23 after a shot-for-shot final match, taking the honours 14/10. In Thursday’s popular 2x4x2 mixed or otherwise pairs Colin Haigh paired up with an out-of-town visitor, Trevor Kilpatrick, to take out the first prize securing two wins from 13 winning ends and 27 points. The ever-consistent Liz Witton/ Norm Bluck won second prize 2/12/26 and Lindsay Wilson/Steve Dickens 1/26/8 recorded third prize. Annie Judge/Verona Billing won the day’s drawn prize.
