Dedicated lawn bowlers Joe Rowen (sk) and lead Annie Judge are the new champion mixed pair at the Taupo Bowling Club.

In the 2022/2023 mixed championship pairs final, played mid-week on the club greens, they took the honours from a past multi-champion Rick Whittaker and experienced bowler, and newly-joined club member Janet Simmons, in a final that went the full distance.

Both pairs found the blustery wind conditions a real challenge, but accepted the challenge when applying their skills so well. Although the final was generally close, it was Rowen and Judge who always led from the front and, although trailing narrowly for much of the game, Whittaker and Simmons continued to keep their opponents honest.

In the end Joe Rowen, whose dedication is such that he travels regularly from Tū rangi to play his bowls in Taupō , and a very experienced Annie Judge sealed the match and the championship 18/14 at the 16th and final end. Besides the Fun Fridays and Placemakers Community Twilight Triples open to the public there are some major tournaments ahead including the Club Mini Classic scheduled for next Saturday.
