A beautiful floral bouquet or an alternative?

- Writes Kem Ormond

Ihave to admit a beautiful floral bouquet can be simply stunning, but there are alternatives if you prefer not to use fresh flowers and they are all worth considering.

The first thing you need to consider is the time of the year that you are getting married, as this can determine what is in season, the cost, and if deciding whether an alternative may be a better option. I have been to weddings where the bride chose flowers from her grandmother’s garden and just wanted a hand tied bouquet, and another who had her bouquet include old brooches from her mother’s costume jewellery collection, and combined these with fresh flowers.

There are so many alternatives, such as a dried bouquet and even using an assortment of feathers.

Herbs, total greenery, autumn leaves and even silk flowers are all good options. I have seen some gorgeous photos of a wedding bouquet, totally made out of succulents... modern and stunning at the same time!

If you do not want flowers and faith plays an important part in your life, you could carry a bible, or your bridesmaids could carry a Chinese umbrella each (and won’t they they thank you for that on a hot summers day!). I have also seen some beautiful paper flowers made for a wedding bouquet and as the bride had been a journalist, they had used a couple of flowers made from newsprint in the

bouquet.

Having a bouquet that is both symbolic and gorgeous is becoming more and more common. Olive branches hold a meaning of peace, and they are the perfect piece of greenery to carry down the aisle. Put together a bunch of olive branches tied with a gorgeous ribbon for a uniquely textured choice. And if you are not at all interested in carrying flowers, why not consider a flower crown instead?

Natives are becoming very popular in the bride’s bouquet, especially if they are growing in a section of bush that has a special meaning to the couple marrying.

And if you are wanting to preserve your fresh bouquet, there are plenty of businesses that can do this for you.
