Brain Injury Waikato support group, April 4, 10.30am-12pm, Taupō Women’s Club

Brain Injury Waikato invites all people living with a brain injury, their family/whānau and carers to join them for a monthly support group. Support groups can provide a sense of belonging, an opportunit­y to make social connection­s, and give a space for people to share ideas, issues and worries.

It is a place to share, listen and support while surrounded by people who understand or are walking a similar path.

Children’s Day Teddy Bears’ Picnic, April 4, 3-6pm, Hickling Park

Taupō Family Centre Inc. is hosting a 2024 Children’s Day Teddy Bears’ Picnic on April 4 at Hickling Park (by the skate park).

This year they are partnering with Kids Greening Taupō as part of their Ekco Warriors theme: “Caring for our tamariki and our environmen­t.” The picnic promises entertainm­ent, prizes and gift bags for a gold coin donation.

Bring a picnic spread and register your teddy bear, and enjoy a free event celebratin­g our children.

Taupō Timebank Farmers’ Market, April 6, 9am-1pm, Spa Park Community Gardens (behind Lake Local)

Local legends False Heights are bringing the entertainm­ent for this edition of the Community Gardens’ Farmer’s Market.

The family-friendly event promises food trucks, face-painting and loads of fun for the kids, including a massive play area.

Market stalls will offer everything from artisanal foodstuffs, seedlings, fresh produce, arts and crafts, flowers, sauces, jams, preserves and much more. Go to taupotimeb­ank.org for details or to enquire about holding a stall.

The Green Flea Market at Market Central, April 7, 9am-1pm, Northcroft Reserve

Market Central returns for its weekly market slot, bringing food stalls, crafts, local products and entertainm­ent.

The first Sunday of the month will also see the Green Flea Market- a car boot sale with a twist. Pre-loved workable and wearable items are on offer from local stallholde­rs.

Elevate with speaker Jehan Casinader, April 8, 5.30-8.30pm, Taupō-nui-a-Tia College

Elevate comes to Taupō-nui-a-Tia College, with the Taupō Business Chamber and Master Builders NZ. Guest speaker Jehan Casinader is a journalist, keynote speaker and mental health advocate. Casinader was named Broadcast Reporter of the Year at the Voyager Media Awards in 2020, and Reporter of the Year at the New Zealand Television Awards in 2018.

In the aftermath of natural disasters, terror attacks, sporting triumphs and everything in between, Casinader has helped hundreds of Kiwis to share their vulnerable, deeply personal stories with the rest of the country.
