Rare award for local Lions group

-

The outstanding service provided by the men and women of the Lions Club of Taupō Pakeke has been acknowledged recently with a rare district youth award.

At the recent Lions District annual convention at Rotorua, Taupō Pakeke club secretary Ian Triscott accepted a rare trophy presented to the club at the convention by an Australian governor who had also presented a paper at the convention.

The Lions District Youth Trophy was awarded to the club for three years of conservation work with students at Waipāhīhī Primary School.

“The award is so deserving of our members,” said Ian, “and I was proud to accept it on behalf of our club.”

Ian noted that interest from people in becoming members of the club that serves the Taupō community was on the rise as one or two new members have recently been signed-up.

He said that the 30 men and women members were very dedicated and their efforts to generate finances in order to help others in the community were amazing.

Much of the focus on providing local assistance has been on matters relating to education, health, youth, conservation and emergencies.

Any claims for assistance need to be detailed in writing to the club and are expected to be presented, in person, at the club meetings and, if successful, must be followed up by a full report to the club meeting after the event.

The club meets at the Women’s Club Rooms in Story Place every second Tuesday of the month from noon.

Anyone who is communityminded and thinking that they might want to use those skills by joining the club should contact secretary Ian Triscott 021 937 156 or iantriscott@gmail.com
