TAUPŌ ROARS INTO LIFE from April 19 to 21, hosting the 2024 ITM Taupō Super400, with thousands of visitors, special concerts, markets, and community events for the whole family.

The Repco Supercars Championsh­ip is the premier motorsport category in Australasi­a and one of Australia’s biggest sports. The Taupō District is buzzing with anticipati­on.

Events kick off on Thursday 18 April with a unique Track to Town event where the Supercars will make their way from the Taupō Internatio­nal Motorsport Park to Te Ātea, at Tapuaeharu­ru Reserve on Taupō’s lakefront, to meet with fans on the eve of the event.

The convoy will depart at 3.45pm and arrive at Tapuaeharu­ru Reserve by 4pm. All 24 Supercars cars, from Camaros to Mustangs, will be on display during a free autograph session for fans, before they head back to the circuit ahead of Friday’s opening practice.

Friday 19 April is the opening day of the inaugural ITM Taupō Super400 and a special event for all. A Family Fun Day offers tickets up to 60 percent cheaper than weekend entry. With games, entertainm­ent and a kids’ zone it is the perfect day out for the whole family during the school holidays. Kids 12 and under are free with a paying adult. Friday doesn’t end there, with Kaylee Bell, Australasi­a’s most-streamed female country music artist, performing two concerts in Taupō’s Great Lake Centre, the first concert will be a family-friendly matinee followed later by an evening concert.

Six60, one of New Zealand’s most popular bands, is also in town playing an intimate concert at the Great Lake Centre on Saturday night.

As well as two headline acts, there is more entertainm­ent planned. Against the backdrop of New Zealand’s largest lake you can enjoy gourmet food and listen to local musicians. Head on down to Northcroft Reserve for Dinner at the Lake on Friday and Saturday to dine all fresco and support some great local artists.s. Open from 4.30pm to 8.30pm, there will be a great variety of food stalls and music to unwind to after a day at the track or simplyy to soak up the atmosphere.

Rounding off the racing are two rare and special fly-overs. The Royal New Zealand Air Force aerobatic display team take to the skies above Taupō on Saturday in the Black Falcons, followed by a New Zealand Warbirds Associatio­n demonstrat­ion on Sunday.
