SUPERCARS RACE INTO TAUPŌ THIS WEEK
SUPERCARS WEEK IS here! The drivers and their high-speed machines have arrived and the district will be pumping all weekend.
Tens of thousands of visitors will join locals to enjoy racing, community events, concerts and activities for the whole family.
Today (Thursday 18 April), all 24 Supercars will be at Te Ātea, Tapuaeharuru Reserve on Taupō’s lakefront. This is a great opportunity for fans who can’t get to the motorsport park during the weekend to meet the drivers and check out their wheels.
Many visitors are already in town and we can expect it to stay busy around town right throughout the weekend, so here are some tips for locals:
• Expect more traffic in Taupō, similar to the levels during the Christmas and New Year holidays, and allow yourself extra travel time. There will be some roads closed in Taupō (around Te Ātea/ Tapuaeharuru Reserve/Roberts Street) and traffic management out by Taupō International Motorsport Park.
• If possible, avoid driving near Taupō International Motorsport Park over the weekend, especially at peak times in the morning and from 4.30pm.
• You might find it’s best to use your local dairy or supermarket rather than heading to the main supermarkets. Or do a big shop the week before the event.
• Broadlands Road will be very busy over the weekend. You’d be best to delay a trip to Broadlands Road Landfill and Resource Recovery Centre until after the event or use one of our other transfer stations. You can find more information at www.taupo.govt.nz/rubbish.
• Be patient with our team. Some of our Taupō District Council whānau will be really tapped over that time; like our environmental rangers who keep the rohe clean, our kerbside refuse and recycling contractors and our customer service superstars. Please be patient and kind. We’ll get there!
• If possible, report any urgent issues to us by phone
(07 376 0899) and any non-urgent requests by email to info@taupo.govt.nz, private message to our Facebook page
or using our Antenno app.
