Taupo Golf Club Tuesday Ladies’ competition

Thirty-four ladies arrived full of the joys of life to an unequivocally beautiful autumn day in Taupō.

The sun shone brightly, the air was slightly brisk to start with and we were all dressed accordingly.

After about three holes on Tauhara course, extra clothing was being expelled as the temperature started to rise and warmth shone through.

Unfortunately, none of us could blame the conditions for some of the unusual shots that were fired, but fortunately, we all live to play another round again next week in the constant hope of producing a remarkable score!

This being so, the golf prowess of a few produced some mouthwatering scores despite the competition being the most difficult on our programme, Nett, which prevents the player from picking up the ball and moving to the next tee after a frustrating number of shots.

First of the day was Wynne Murdock with a 68 Nett, followed by Bar Hoadley with a 69 Nett.

Gail Searle came in with 70 and Marlene Nitschke with 71, followed by several players coming home with 72.

Chris Thomson picked up the Columbus Cafe´ voucher for Nearest the Pin for the silver division, Trish Macklow received a voucher from Liquorland for NTP bronze 1 and Yvonne Ruareti-Carson a Cafe´ Lacus voucher for bronze 2.

Longest Putt went to Lynne Bowden with a huge downhill putt on hole number 18 and for her effort, she received a voucher from Dixie Brown.

The raffle was won by Viv Nyssen and she received a lovely bag of goodies from Cat’s Pyjamas.

Thanks again to our wonderful sponsors.

Saturday Women’s Golf

“Ka maumahara tonu tātou ki a rātou, we will remember them”.

In the wake of the club’s Anzac competition, camaraderie among the Saturday women was further strengthened; especially with Linda Whitlock joining the ranks and having Anne Graham return to the fold.

A visiting spectator, Wendy Robinson, was also a welcome addition by ensuring a fast pace among the first cohort as she marshalled them along.

While Anne’s playing prowess is well known, it was nonetheless surprising that after a three-year pause, hers was the top honours throughout; nearest to the pin on Tauhara’s 17th hole, longest putt on the 18th and the stableford winner with 69 - a countback from Ali Flavell in second place.

Fran Fuller, an occasional Saturdayer, took third place with 70, and Mary Watt was fourth from Areta Kahu’s fifth placing, each with 71.

With the onset of winter, a more pleasant day could hardly be envisaged - sunshine, green fairways, a backdrop of autumn colours, Tauhara towering and whānaungatanga. Lest we forget.
