Ex cricket rep tops Vets golf field with 44 points

Barry Ross accumulate­d 44 stableford to head some hot scoring by the Veteran men at Te Awamutu Golf Club.

The former classy cricket allrounder finished two points clear of his nearest rival last Thursday.

No fewer than seven of the veteran golfers scored 38 points or more, Gerald Lane claiming the runner-up spot with 42, John Staples 41, Toby Thomson, Ray Davies 39, George Vanner, Ross Murray 38.

Open midweek scramble winners were Percy Kapa with an 82 gross and Rewa Hawira with 39 stableford.

Women’s club day scramble winners were Jan Mandeno (senior) with 39 stableford, Glennis Kay (intermedia­te) 41, Annette Bryant, Rewa Hawira 37.

Twos were scored by Dale Spiers, Elaine Troutbeck.

The nine hole division nett scramble was won by Ann Dobson with 32, from Sandra White 34.

Leading Saturday ladies were Toni Coleman with 44 stableford, Thora Young 42, Karen Campton, Rewa Hawira 40.

All day open scramble winners were Dean Tangiora with 74 gross, Rewa Hawira 40 stableford, Edward Kay, Jim Kirkham 37, Craig Daw 36.

Sunday’s club day scramble winners were Steve Hudson with 82 gross, Howard Wynyard 41 stableford, Raewyn Coleman, Welby Murrell 40, Percy Kapa 39, Ray Davies, Bill Hawira, Rewa Hawira 38.

Allan Duncan scored the cay’s solitary two.
