Fired up Rockets still unbeaten in darts champs

Rosetown Rockets could consider themselves a trifle lucky to remain the only unbeaten team in Te Awamutu Darts championsh­ip after twice scrapping home 12-11 over the past two weeks.

The Rockets were fully extended by WMC Hunters in week eight; Tungstens then took them to the wire in week nine.

No fewer than 10x180s have been thrown over the past fortnight, including a rare three maximums from Robert Day helping Tungstens to an 18-5 win over Rosetown Rebels in week eight. Rebels’ Marty Pearce also threw a 180 in this match.

Tama Reuben threw his second brace of 180s in quick succession in Ohaupo’s 15-8 win over the Warriors.

The sixth 180 to be thrown in week eight went to Dillon Jones in division two playing for Rosetown Thorns who beat RSA Bombers 10-5.

Other division two results in week eight saw WMC Dragons deal to WMC Raiders 13-2 and Ohaupo Tigers pip RSA Allsorts 8-7.

The week nine clash between Rosetown Rockets and Tungstens was a thrilling affair that saw the ascendancy fluctuate throughout.

The triples were drawn 1-1 and Tungstens led 3-2 after the pairs. Rosetown Rockets hit the front, 6-4, after winning the first leg of singles (4-2), only to see Tungstens regain the lead, 9-8, after winning the second leg of singles (4-2). Back stormed the Rosetown Rockets, winning the third leg of singles 4-2 and the match 12-11.

David Scott (Rosetown Rockets) was the standout player winning all his five matches. Daryl Wheeler threw a 180 playing for Tungstens.

WMC Hunters stayed in touch with the competitio­n leaders, chalking up win number five at the expense of Warriors 20-3.

Shane Cluitt threw a 180 for the Hunters.

Maximums to Ben Coutts and Shaun Duval were highlights of Misfits’ 15-10 win over Rosetown Rebels.

In division two, WMC Dragons consolidat­ed their competitio­n lead with an 11-4 win over RSA Allsorts. Paul Cleaver threw a 180 for the Dragons.

RSA Allsorts have been joined in second place by Rosetown Thorns. The Thorns pipped Ohaupo Tigers 8-7 for their fifth win.

RSA Bombers chalked up their third win scrapping home 8-7 over WMC Raiders.
