Miezenbeek, Forster rein supreme at SA
Carl Miezenbeek and Cheryl Forster have taken out the senior men’s and women’s championship respectively at the Stewart Alexander Golf Club.
The senior men’s competition saw Shayne Ashford and Carl Miezenbeek square after 18 holes. Miezenbeek then made his winning run to be three up after 27.
Despite a number of wayward tee-shots, his recovery kept him in front for an eventual win over former titleholder Ashford, 4/3.
Forster continued her domination in the women’s silver section with an 8/7 win over Cindy Dearing.
Sue Pollock was the bronze division champion. She was six up after 18 holes and went on to beat Thora Young 9/8.
The bronze 2 division saw Adele Ashford beat Helen Parker 2/1.
Denny Nunn continued his good form for a 4/3 win over Alec Cruikshank in the intermediate men’s final after being all square through 18 holes.
The junior section final saw Bobby Rollinson beat Keith Mitchell.
In the junior B section, Jonathan Makuch and George King were square after 27 holes. Rather than continuing around the course, they opted to play the 18th hole four times so members could watch from the clubhouse. Jonathan Makuch eventually took the victory.
It was a match that ‘kept on giving’ and provided great entertainment.
The championship event was played in perfect conditions.
Club captain Roger Neal said strong support from members and friends contributed to another successful day of golf.
