Four wins for Putaruru team

Tony Ivemy skipped his Putaruru team of Bob Hagoort and Graham Hoole to outright victory in the summer tournament at Te Awamutu Bowling Club.

The Putaruru visitors were the only one of 18 teams to emerge with a maximum four wins, prevailing 8-6, 9-4, 8-5 and 12-5.

Hillcrest’s Larry Fitzpatrick skipped Gerry Paterson and Terry Osment (Te Awamutu) to runners-up with a three wins, one draw record. Their victories were by decisive 10-3, 16-0, 16-5 margins. Their only hiccup was a 6-6 draw in round two.

Ohope’s Charlie Griffiths skipped his brother-in-law Arthur Twyford and Richard Death (Te Awamutu) to third place with three wins and a loss. Their wins were 5-4, 17-1, 6-5 to go with a 10-3 loss.

The tournament, sponsored by Hay and Straw Company, attracted nine visiting teams.
