Big win­ners Cogswell wins Race to 500 in golf tro­phy

Jonathan Makush and Helen Parker were the big win­ners in the an­nual Bill Knight Closed Christ­mas Tour­na­ment at Ste­wart Alexan­der Golf Club.

Makush won the Bill Knight Tro­phy with a hot 58 nett.

The 29 hand­i­cap­per was out in 43 and home in 44 for an 87 gross in­clud­ing four pars.

Parker took out the­women’s Agnes Knight Tro­phy with a 69 nett. The 31 hand­i­cap­per had halves of 53 and 47. High­lights of her rounds were pars on the eighth and 11th holes.

Divi­sion one (for those on handicaps 0-17.9) was headed by Ian Berry with a two-over-par 72 gross.

Shayne Ash­ford won the nett with 65, from Dean Scott, Gary Grylls, Bill Garvin 66, John Hollinshead, Carl Miezen­beek 67.

Lead­ing nett scorers in divi­sion 2 (18-36 handicaps) were Jack Muri­wai with 62, Ge­orge King 65, Dil­lon Tu­paea, Dave Her­bert 66, Michael Her­bert 66, Dave Cou­p­land 67.

Sue Pol­lock, with 74 nett and Deb­bie Pit­con, with 78, headed the ladies’ scram­ble.

Twos were by Ian Berry, Roger Neal, Shayne Ash­ford, Ge­orge King, Keith Mitchell.

The NEC jack­pot was struck by Dil­lon Tu­paea on 15.

Ron Cogswell won the win­ner’s purse of $500 in the year­long Race to 500 com­pe­ti­tion at Piron­gia Golf Club.

The fi­nal of the Ku­mar Hold­ings-spon­sored event was won by Cogswell with 39 stable­ford points on Sun­day.

Jack Hjorth won sec­ond prize money of $150 with 36 points. Third place and $100 went to Scott Lawwith 35 stable­ford. Fourth prize of $70 went to Derek Boyle with 33 points.

The fi­nal was played in con­junc­tion with the Tray Parkes Tro­phy nett com­pe­ti­tion for men and women. Phillip Eyre emerged the men’s win­ner with a round of 66 and Denise Goile the women’s win­ner with 73 nett.

The se­nior scram­ble was won by Philip Eyre with 66 nett, from Ken Bard­s­ley 67, Kevin Ap­pleby 68, Steve Law 70.

Dave Lamb headed the ju­nior scram­ble with 68, Paul Davie, Char­lie Coles 69, Ron Cogswell 70.

Char­lie Coles struck the ju­nior jack­pot worth $200 with a two and a birdie. Scott Law and Barry Cavey also scored twos.

Clos­est to pin went to Dave Sea­ger. Long­est putt win­ner was Terry Charlesworth.
