A century for Clarke in 40-over contest
Pirongia batsman Connor Clarke scored a stunning 103 off 75 balls in his team’s 111 run win over Te Awamutu Marist in Waikato Valley Cricket’s 40 overs competition.
The home team were in trouble batting first at Pirongia Domain on Saturday, reeling at 50/4 after 20 overs when brothers Connor and Matti Clarke came together at the crease and started to rebuild the innings.
The game was on a knife edge at 30 overs when Matti was out for 36 and the total at 100.
Connor then went into overdrive smashing 12 sixes and three fours on his way to a matchwinning century, pushing the total out to 213/9.
He reportedly cleared the boundary with ease with some clean hitting.
The pick of the Marist bowlers were Murray Maxwell with 3-18 and Andy Taylor with 3-39 off eight overs.
Marist’s run chase never really got going, being bowled out for 102 in 25.2 overs with Bryce McCandlish scoring 26 and Andy Taylor 24.
Connor Clarke completed a memorable double with bowling figures of 3-14.
Marist play TA Gold this coming weekend at Castleton Park. At stake will be the Challenge Cup currently held by Sports Gold.
