A cen­tury for Clarke in 40-over con­test

Piron­gia bats­man Con­nor Clarke scored a stun­ning 103 off 75 balls in his team’s 111 run win over Te Awa­mutu Marist in Waikato Val­ley Cricket’s 40 overs com­pe­ti­tion.

The home team were in trou­ble bat­ting first at Piron­gia Do­main on Satur­day, reel­ing at 50/4 after 20 overs when broth­ers Con­nor and Matti Clarke came to­gether at the crease and started to re­build the in­nings.

The game was on a knife edge at 30 overs when Matti was out for 36 and the to­tal at 100.

Con­nor then went into over­drive smash­ing 12 sixes and three fours on his way to a match­win­ning cen­tury, push­ing the to­tal out to 213/9.

He re­port­edly cleared the bound­ary with ease with some clean hit­ting.

The pick of the Marist bowlers were Mur­ray Maxwell with 3-18 and Andy Tay­lor with 3-39 off eight overs.

Marist’s run chase never really got go­ing, be­ing bowled out for 102 in 25.2 overs with Bryce McCan­dlish scor­ing 26 and Andy Tay­lor 24.

Con­nor Clarke com­pleted a mem­o­rable dou­ble with bowl­ing fig­ures of 3-14.

Marist play TA Gold this com­ing week­end at Castle­ton Park. At stake will be the Chal­lenge Cup cur­rently held by Sports Gold.
