Golfer in sparkling form in tour­na­ment

Richard Gray was in sparkling form ac­cu­mu­lat­ing 44 sta­ble­ford in the Closed Christ­mas Tour­na­ment at Te Awa­mutu Golf Club.

The 19 hand­i­cap­per was out in 45 be­fore blos­som­ing on the back nine shoot­ing 38 off the stick in­clud­ing a birdie on 17.

Gray’s points haul headed off Mau­rice Sum­mer­field on 43, Greg Ward, Robert Cole­man, Barry Murtagh 40, John Hill 39, Ray Davies, John Dar­ragh, Craig Meacheam 38.

The men’s gross was won by club man­ager David Sea­ger with a oneover-par 73.

Women’s gross win­ner was Ani Bahler with an 85.

Toni Cole­man topped the women’s sta­ble­ford with 41 points, from Raewyn Cole­man, Thora Young 39, Robin Wat­son 38, Sachiko Mu­ra­matsa, Sylvia Gooch, Sally Davies 37.

Twos were score by Bryce McDougall, Raewyn Cole­man, Ani Bahler and Gwenda Meeke.

Scor­ing was hot in the Best of the Vets Christ­mas scram­ble con­tested in two di­vi­sions last Thurs­day.

Percy Kapa won the over­all gross with an 80.

Lead­ing sta­ble­ford scor­ers in divi­sion one were Mick Forster with 46 points, Allen Roun­th­waite 44, Ger­ald Lane 41, Ge­orge Van­ner, Mur­ray Wal­lis 40, Welby Mur­rell, Robin McGhie 39, Peter Emery, Barry Murtagh 38, Her­man Ooster­man, Rewa Hawira, Ross Mur­ray, Sid Lim 37.

Divi­sion two was headed by Kerry Jensen with 45 points, from Ray Davies 41, Toby Thom­son, Barry Ross, Roy Green­halgh 40, John Hill 39, John Sta­ples 38, Schinichi Ka­jimura, Bill Hawira, Gwenda Meeke 36.

Open mid­week tour­na­ment win­ners were Clin­ton Rowe with a 77 gross, Les Com­mon 40 sta­ble­ford, Bill Hawira, Percy Kapa, Barry Murtagh, Peter McGowan 39, Jim Kirkham, Robin McGhie, Tim Crotty 37.

The only two was scored by Percy Kapa.
