Win keeps Hunters in lead

Hunters continue to hold its slender lead in the 1st division of the Te Awamutu Darts Competitio­n after besting Rosetown Rockets 16-7.

Damon Warbrick was the standout player for Hunters, winning all his games.

O¯ haupo¯ maintained its second place with an emphatic 21-2 win over Tungstens. This is a somewhat unexpected score differenti­al given some of Tungstens excellent results of late.

Chris Gurnik, Chad Beazley and Tahi Bidois won all their games for O¯ haupo¯ .

Chad Beazley also scored a 180 along with his O¯ haupo¯ team mates David Bowers and Marcus Ngare. Ben Rapson’s 180 was the only standout feature for Tungstens.

Dragons lost to Warriors 5-18 to maintain its strong grip on the wooden spoon. Ken Bardsley and Shug Hemare won all their games for Warriors.

Rebels narrowly won its match 8-7 against Thorns to hold onto the Division 2 lead.

Steve Wilkinson and Shane Foster were the difference in this victory, winning all their games.

Allsorts stayed in sight of the leader after accounting for Raiders 12-3. Raeleen Bain and Gayle Smith were the best of the Allsorts team, winning all their games.

Standings after week 16: 1st Division;

Hunters — 14 wins, O¯ haupo¯ — 12, Rockets — 10, Tungstens — 8, Warriors — 3, Dragons — 1.

Rebels — 10, Allsorts — 8, Tigers — 7, Thorns — 4, Raiders — 3.

2nd Division;

Last month Te Awamutu Bowling Club celebrated the opening of the new season with a combined event with the Waikato Centre.

Organisers said it was fantastic to see the Te Awamutu Club colours on the day.

Opening speeches were given by Diane Sharpe and Joe Curry.

Eight visiting teams joined 10 local teams for the triples competitio­n.

Winners were J Sinclair, J Apeldoorn and N Bartosiak from B Ryburn, L Anderson and L Liddington — all from Te Awamutu.

The first of the club’s trophy events was the Ladies Drawn Mitts & Ellis Plates.

Seventeen bowlers took part, with seven pairs teams and one triple playing three games of 12 ends.

Most games were close, with Diane Sharpe and Wilma Watson prevailing over Nevenka Drnasin, Elske DeBryn and Dawn Highnam.
