Mini Trillian Trek heading our way

-

Look out Te Awamutu — the annual Mini Trillian Trek is coming to our town in October this year.

This is a three-day weekend version of the seven-day Trillion Trek event which is held in March.

The Trek features fire trucks and other uniquely modified vehicles — its main tasks to distribute grants, bikes and insulin pumps, install free fire alarms and assist with community projects while bringing smiles, laughter and more.

The Trekkers’ mission is to take their colourful, non-competitive charity rally around New Zealand, spreading as many smiles as they can and raising money for Kiwi kids in need.

Whether it’s specialist equipment, learning aids, sports gear or just basic supplies, Trekkers are committed to making a difference in children’s lives.

The Mini Trillian Trek is a great introduction for new teams to experience what the Trek is all about — and a great excuse for long-time members to get the Trek car out of the garage and continue their good work.

The Mini Trillian Trek starts in Te Awamutu on Friday, October 18 and will include visits to three schools in the Waipa¯ area — before heading off to Waihı¯ Beach for the night.

Schools include Te Awamutu Primary School where they will be giving away five BMX bikes before departing at 10am.

Other schools receiving visits are Roto-O-Rangi School, arriving at 10.10am and departing at 11am and Pukeatua School, arriving at 11.10am and departing at 11.50am Te Poi School also receives a visit with the rally arriving at 1.50pm and departing at 2.40pm.

Six further bikes will be given away during the day.

From Waihı¯ the group travels up the Thames coast, taking part in five beach fun Surf Carnivals — for fun things that might involve paper planes, shot puts, kite flying, javelin and the like before reaching Coromandel township for their next overnight stop.

It will be a bright and early start for the trip back down the coast to finish in Thames on the Sunday.

And if you see Trekkers travelling along the road in their fire trucks and cars, they would love you to give them a toot or a wave.
