Te Awamutu Courier

Lions’ boxing gift

-

Rosetown Lions recently donated a much needed piece of equipment to the newly formed Te Awamutu Boxing Academy.

President Paula McWha and youth chair Johanna Tong handed over a high-powered exercycle — donated in their name by Rosetown Lions VP Glenice Troth — to the group and their leaders.

Paula says seeing how grateful everyone was showed it will be a huge benefit to the academy.

Community Health Shuttle

Rosetown Lions are currently raising funds for the fitout of a new shuttle for Te Awamutu Health Trust.

The club has pledged $30,000 and have invited Te Awamutu, Pakeke and O¯haupo¯/ Nga¯hinapo¯uri Lions to assist them in meeting the target.

Members have been staffing various stations around town selling raffle tickets throughout the week, culminating at the Annual Craft Fair this Saturday.

All prizes have been donated so a healthy profit will be made for a great cause if all 2500 tickets are sold.

Diabetes Month

November is Diabetes Month and a walk has been organised for Thursday the 14th, with a gold coin entry to go towards Jerry the Bear — a special bear with diabetes that has apps and tools to test and respond to its blood sugar level.

Jerry is given to a child who has diabetes so they can understand their condition.

Along the way the group will be stopping at Te Awamutu Library to donate two children’s books on diabetes.

Participants should meet on corner of Park Rd/Domain St for a 9.30am start.

The same walk will be repeated at 5.30pm for those who can’t make the morning walk and everyone is welcome.
