Competition back in action

-

Te Awamutu AFC 5-a-side football kicked off again this week with five weeks of action left to go.

Waikato Cakes’ Ken Miezenbeek welcomed everyone back with excitement in the air. There was good news for the coming year, coaching wise, with Richard Hudson taking the first and reserves. Dave Hall is adding a youth squad to the club too.

Sean “Stringy” Stringfellow has also jumped in to bring women’s football back while Jim Grainger will run an over35s team of Storytellers.

Women’s football is returning to Te Awamutu this year and meetings will be held at 6pm on Mondays at Anchor Park until the number wanting to be involved is established.

The hope is by adding a 5-a-side element it will appeal to all who want to be involved in the sport.

■ There are options for women’s football and if you’re interested in playing but can’t make Mondays, reach out to the club’s Facebook page or call Sean, 027 224 3066.
