Te Awamutu AFC round-up

-

Te Awamutu AFC 5-a-side organiser Ken Meizenbeek says although they’re getting to the final weeks of the 5-a-side competition, there’s plenty of movement across all the division.

One of the greatest things he will take away from this year is the huge number of families that are wrapped around the event — mums with sons, fathers with daughters and even watching the mix between the age groups.

The club appreciates the involvement from the town with all the other events going on worldwide.

Senior football

This week saw Te Awamutu AFC’s first senior training session with the combined first and reserves team under the guidance of Richard “Hudders” Hudson.

A strong group of 20 turned out for this session with a

number of people still away on holiday.

There was lots of interest on the sidelines with a number of people coming down to watch.

Hudson advised all who are committed to the season are welcome to train.

The club say the buy-in from local businesses and individuals is fantastic.

If you’re interested in playing get in touch with the club or Hudson on 021-145-3423.

Women’s football

On the campaign to bring Women’s Football back to Te

Awamutu, week two couldn’t have started any better with another strong group of 12 going through the 6 v 6 session.

Coach Sean “Stringy” Stringfellow says he is impressed with the support from the community so far.

“I’ve apologised to those who the club has let down last year, I’ve explained the plan for that never to happen again and we’re moving forward.”

They continue to meet on Monday nights to continue the muster. Women of any age and ability are welcome to get in touch with the club about how they can be involved.
