Te Awamutu Golf Club opened their official season on Sunday, February 13 with the mixed Summer Cup played in extreme conditions.

Drawn partners saw Raewyn Coleman and Mike Menzies winning with 67 points, followed by Roy Greenhalgh and Connor Hill 64; Paul McFarlane and Jim Kirkham 64 and Gordon Kirkham and John Darragh 64.

The ladies opened the next Wednesday and played a novelty 12 holes with Stableford added to half their age.

The experience­d players took out the day; the winner was Mary Strack on 68, Margaret Johnson and Min Nolan 62, followed by Margaret Gray, Christine Lloyd and Angela Thomson on 61. Twos were scored by Margaret Gray and Elaine Troutbeck.

Ladies 9-holers played the same competitio­n with Zoe Hunter, Karolyn Taylor and Ann Dobson getting all the points.

Saturday ladies are also well into their season. Jane Stokes was last week’s winner, followed by Karina Belfield 37, Toni Coleman and Mary Strack 36.

The Men’s Handicappe­d Stroke Play Pennants had the first round at Te Awamutu on Sunday with the home team making a great start.

Kelvin Trass and Rodney Morkel posted amazing scores, 67 nett for Kelvin and Rodney had his first sub 80, scoring a blistering 76 off the stick for a 62 nett.

Tim Young had 72 Nett and Howard Wynyard a 75 nett. The team posted a 311 score.

The next week saw the Te Awamutu match play Pennant Team have a 5 win over Horsham Downs.

Barbara Hill ran away with the Ladies Scramble on February 21 with 43 points whilst the 2nd round of the Vets Eyeington Trophy was won by Arthur Reese with 41 points over Daryl Mills on 40 points.

The Mark Keesom Twilight Series was again well supported on a hot and humid Thursday, February 17 with Jordan Parker-Wood prevailing with 23 points over Sanjay Weerasingh­e and Russell Muir who both had 22 points.

Over 40 players teed off for the first round of Top Dog on Saturday, February 19 with hot scoring from Greg Inglis (Net 69) and Donna Reynolds with 38 Stableford points.

Ladies Championsh­ip Pennants Division 2 team of Deb Foster, Michelle Galbraith, Kerry Vickers and Raewyn MacMahon beat Walton 2 at Matamata 5 games to 1.

Men’s Handicap Match play team of Mark Grocott, Ray Foster, Andrew Galbraith, Josh Balloch, Matt Scoble and Colin Cowan played Cambridge Golf Club at Hukanui Golf Club and shared the match 4.5 games each. Vets:
