Rogues beaten in away game

Bill Harris gets 4-26 in close loss

-

With an away game versus Karaka Stallions, the Livingstone Building Rosetown Rogues lost in the final over with one ball to spare and one wicket to get.

The scene was set with Macca getting the captains card again and deciding to bat first on a friendly pitch.

The openers Pete Lawry and Peter Clark put on a 50-run opening wicket stand. With Lawry out on a quick 14 runs Clarke retired which brought Kyle Owens and Mike Naylor to the crease.

They continued the onslaught and hammered the bowling to all parts of the ground. With Naylor retiring on 31, Owens was bowled for 24 and the Rogues were 103/2 off 21 overs and looked like getting a big score at drinks.

With the captain Macca also scoring 32, runs kept coming and all batsmen contributed to a great score which the Rogues knew they could defend.

Gavin Chatfield 17 grabbed runs as well. So with 207/5 the game was on.

Karaka’s opening partnership was 53 runs for the first wicket with Cassin retiring as well.

From there the Rogues were on top through the middle of the innings, having Karaka on the ropes at 98/6 half way through the innings, with the ever youthful Bill Harris bowling well and also Chatfield with 1/21 off six overs.

John Bernau bowled well with 0/17 off six overs, and it all came down to the last over with Karaka needing nine runs to win sitting on 199/9 and their opener Cassin back at the crease scoring freely.

Evergreen Clark stepped up to bowl three singles off the first three balls. It was 202/9 and then they ran a two on the fourth ball, 204/9 with two balls to bowl.

With the now in tight Clark bowling a leg cutter which caught the edge of the bat and went past the wicketkeeper for four and thus ended the game with one ball to spare, Karaka winning 208/9.

Player of the match went to Bill Harris with 4/26 off six overs.

Livingstone Building Rosetown Rogues v Hamilton Planks

At long last the Livingstone Building

Rosetown Rogues got to have a game played at their home Kihikihi Domain on Sunday, March 6 against Hamilton Planks.

All players arrived on time and the sun was beating, cards were drawn and the new captain for the day was John Wolfe.

After tossing the coin and losing,

Hamilton decided to bat, which in hindsight was a good decision given the nature of the pitch.

Hamilton got off to a rollicking start at 71 runs in just 10 overs. From overs 11-20 the run rate dropped with the slow to medium bowlers taking over and the pitch playing really slow. Bill Harris 1/9 and Gavin Chatfield 2/13 both off four overs Hamilton were 4/116 after 22 overs.

With John Bernau also chipping in with 1/23 and the captain Wolfe 1/26 off four overs things were looking great. At 7/155 after 32 overs the game was evenly poised but Hamilton in the last 8 overs scored a whopping 70 runs which took them through to 7/225 off 40 overs at lunch.

With the Livingstone Building Rogues needing to score quickly at 5.65 runs per over the opening pair of Trev Donoghy and Michael Earwaker set the scene.

The pitch got slower and lower and the openers found it hard to get any timing so at the 20 over mark the Rogues were only 3/72 with Earwaker scoring 29 runs before being caught.

With the run rate soaring, a good partnership between Patterson (22) and Wolfe (35) got the Rogues a bit of momentum but sadly it wasn’t to be with Peter Clark coming in at 11 and scoring quickfire 23 off seven balls the game was sadly lost and the Rogues were all out for 10/156.
