Seniors entertain crowd pre-season thriller

-

The large crowd at Te Awamutu’s Stadium on Saturday morning were entertained throughout the preseason game between the Tall Poppy Te Awamutu Senior football squad and the Claudelands Rovers FC U23 side.

In a highly competitive game in hot conditions, both sides played plenty of attractive football to entertain the crowd.

When the final whistle went, the Tall Poppy Te Awamutu Senior squad came out on top with 3-2 win, pleasing the fans.

Te Awamutu’s Waikato Ball scored a hat-trick, the first one for the senior squad in 2022.

Coach Richard Hudson said the step up in quality from last weekend’s opposition is a good building block for the squad, and he is pleased with the players’ attitudes and resilience moving forward.

There are two more pre-season fixtures before the 2022 league campaign starts on April 2.

“Constructively, we need to cut out the sloppy mistakes and concentrate for the full 90 minutes and I am sure this will come together the more game time the players play.”
