Football muster brings club together
Eye-opener for our Senior squad as Unicol bang in five goals
Last Saturday, Te Awamutu AFC held their junior football muster day, supported by senior club members and players. It was a huge success for the club with many junior players signing on.
If you want to register your budding football star, it is not too late.
On the day there was Hungerball, the WaiBOP Federation Ball, Mr Whippy, ASB providing muchneeded shelter, Soccer Unite provided boots and Expleo the sausages.
The best thing about the day was the turnout, with seniors and juniors combining on the one pitch and with participants having the chance to win a Hoops & Scoops voucher for a goal in the kick wall.
The club will also be running a school holiday programme from Monday, April 25 to Friday, April 29. For more information, visit the club website.
The Saturday early game was postponed, however the Tall Poppy Real Estate Senior squad played the later game against last season’s premiership runners-up Waikato Unicol AFC.
The game was played in hot and dry weather on a very hard pitch and both sides struggled to come to terms with the conditions.
The game was played in three 30 minute periods and Unicol took the match 5-1.
In summarising the game, Te Awamutu coach Richard Hudson said he was disappointed with the performance as they were not at their best individually or collectively.
“Our energy levels throughout the game were low and we rushed too many positive situations. However, there were lots of positives to take out of the game and now all the players know the standard that is required to play and compete in the premiership.
“Even though the scoreline may not reflect the game itself we know that we are not too far off the mark and we are on track for our season ahead.”
