Ohaupo¯ split honours with Te Rapa
Ohaupo¯ ¯ Rugby Sports Club hosted Te Rapa on a beautiful Saturday at Ohaupo Memorial Park.
The day doubled as ladies day, celebrating and thanking the contribution of the ladies and calf rearers within and around the club.
First up was the Ohaupo¯ ¯ B side taking on Te Rapa B.
Ohaupo¯ ¯ led early through a penalty kick to halfback Ross Miers making it 3-0 and they continued to lead for much of the game with a brilliant individual try to O¯ haupo¯ centurion Sam Foster, playing in the unfamiliar role of first five-eighth, and another to second five-eighth Liam Wylde.
Both were converted, with a conversion apiece for Miers and Foster.
It seemed they were destined for their first win of the season, but were outclassed in the final 15 minutes with
Te Rapa running in several tries to win 24-17.
Wylde was the Ohaupo¯ ¯ B man of the match while other players to stand out were openside flanker Bevin Tobin and lock Josh Donaghy.
Reupena Maka-Tyrell, Filipe Taufa, Danny Anae and Samuel Stowers crossed the try-line for Te Rapa B with
Anae landing two conversions.
The O¯ haupo¯ A side came away with a 19-13 win over their Te Rapa opponents.
Tries were scored by centre Bronson Wilson-Beech and fullback/cocaptain Dylan Samson in the first half, with a second-half try to winger Caleb Kennedy.
It was a hard-fought game and Ohaupo¯ ¯ ended up down by one until Kennedy’s try sealed the deal. Brothers Scott and Josh Thomas shared the tee with a conversion each.
Openside flanker Ben Parrott was the O¯ haupo¯ player of the match, working tirelessly for 80 minutes.
For Te Rapa, their only try was scored by No 8 Fano Sinapatiave with Abraham Jackson landing a conversion and two penalties.
This week sees both O¯ haupo¯ sides face their Suburbs counterparts at Flagstaff Park, Hamilton.
