Artist exhibits his ‘industrial man art’ for the first time

-

When Rob Bos designed and helped build his new home in Te Awamutu about six years ago, one of the first considerations was his studio/man cave.

Rob ended up working for his builder soon after the home was finished, but much of his spare time is taken up with his art that he started painting at about the same time.

He calls his art ‘industrial man art’ in silhouette style.

Rob started painting for himself as a way to relax, but found some of his mates liked it.

His subjects are usually rock stars and bands, iconic movie scenes, animals, vehicles and motorbikes — “stuff boys recognise and relate to”.

He also painted the door on his beer fridge, and has since done about six more for people.

When he started painting, Rob experimented with styles until he found what he liked, and then finetuned the process so the works would pop off the boards and last.

He says most of the works are a trip down memory lane, and that is probably why people seem to relate to them.

On Saturday ‘Bad Bob’ will hold his first exhibition, which he jokes might be the start of his world tour, from 10am until 2pm at the Te Awamutu Scout Hall in Scout Lane.

He has about 80 pieces for the show — pretty much all his work since he started painting apart from a few he has sold or given away.
