Te Awamutu Genealogy group has a free workshop this Saturday, August 27 and next Saturday, September 3, aimed at those interested in starting their family history.

It will be held at the Te Awamutu Library. Doors open at the Community Room at 9.30am for a 10am start.

This first workshop is 21⁄2 hours and is aimed at beginners or those who may have started researching years ago but are finding things are now totally different to what they were used to.

The first workshop will focus on building a family tree and researching effectively.

“We asked some of our members what they would have liked to know when they first started researching,” says Sandra Metcalfe, one of the organisers, and the workshop content has been based around that.

A second family history workshop will be held next Saturday, is at the same time and venue.

This one will be more focused on key family history websites.

People can attend either the first workshop or both, but the most value will be gained by attending both sessions.

The group welcomes anyone who is interested in family history to attend, especially if they are unsure how to get started or are feeling overwhelmed by the sheer volume of what is available online.

Both workshops will be interactive with lots of opportunities for people to ask questions.

There is no cost involved for participants and registration is not required.
