Former head student makes NZ uni team
Former Te Awamutu College head student Atareipounamu Crown, now studying at the University of Otago, has been selected at halfback for the 2022 New Zealand Universities Rugby Women’s squad.
A member of the 2021 Te Awamutu College Girls 1st XV, 2021 NZ Ma¯ori Nga¯ Mareikura Wa¯hine Under 18 rugby team and a squad member for the 2021 Waikato Farah Palmer Cup wider training group, Crown is a young player with a bright future.
“It meant a lot that I get another chance to wear another black jersey to represent my country and family once again,’ says Crown.
Formerly a Kihikihi rugby club representative, Crown is in her first year at the University of Otago where she is studying health science.
“I’ve been playing for Otago University women’s team, a part of the wider training squad for Otago Spirit and I’m a squad member of the Otago Spirit Development team.”
The 2022 New Zealand Universities Rugby Women’s side are set to play two matches in Christchurch at the University of Canterbury Rugby Football Club.
The first match on September 25 will see them take on the Cantabrians XV at 2pm.
The second and final match against the New Zealand Defence Force will kick off at 12.05pm on October 1.
