Te Awamutu tackle league leaders

Division 1 match may have been season’s last

-

It was Te Awamutu AFC’s Team Townsend Reserves’ turn to take on the league leaders Claudelands Wally’s in Division 1 with the possibility of it being the last football game for the season.

It was refreshing for Te Awamutu to have all their youth well rested with no college games in the morning. The boys hadn’t really had a chance to be a group at points throughout the season due to demands elsewhere.

The game started off with a real tit-for-tat sense with Luke Mansell holding his own at left back while Ben Young and

Josh Fitzpatrick were able to make inroads for Nick King McRae. Dylan Yates was meandering around the top with Roils either side.

At halftime it was clear that Claudelands were frustrated, resorting to attacking each other verbally. Marc Glenister was able to add two goals to his contribution to the club this year. The midfielder has been welcomed home and enjoyed where the club is at and aims to be.

Aaron Mills had an opportunity to play too, a rare appearance for the man in the nets.

The Storyteller Eatery and Bar Over 35s will only be sharing for now their account of the third place league finish. Forgetting all their injuries, ailments and everything in between, they’ve had a great year.

The J&J Construction and Fencing side lost 3-2 in the main game at the Stadium against West Ham.

Cody Pierce in the first half and Flynn Prutton in the second scored for the home side.

Player of the day Bradley Hirst was in top form at centre back and was ably helped by Taylor Morris.

Dan Cleaver in the striker’s role went close to scoring several times, and the centre midfield pairing of Captain Jamie Bell and Scott Surtees worked hard all game long.

Striker Cody Jones set up one goal and finished as the team’s top scorer for the season.

Matt Worrell and Nick

Wright on the right and left midfield had solid games. The team ended the season with a six win, two draw, 10 loss record.

The Edmonds Judd Women’s backed by CACI Te Awamutu have had a great season. Each week their coach has asked them to add a part to their game. The issue now being as it all falls into place the season is ending.

They really have been a great asset to the club and they look forward to a training session around one last part of their game for this weekend.

The club then turns its attention to the summer fivea-side and the Fred Ames Cup, as well as the plans for next year’s teams.
