BRUCE THOMAS

For a councillor position in the Pirongia-Kakepuku ward

-

“I bring experience to the council table and this will be vital with many Government changes to be implemented that will change how Waipa¯ operates and looks in the future. I am against many of these changes for the reason that Waipa is well set to handle future growth and provide our communities with their requirements.”

Bruce has lived all his life in Waipa¯ so has a great understanding of any issues in both the district as a whole and Pirongia-Kakepuku ward. He is involved in community activities and welcomes inquiries from the ratepayers he serves.

With his farming background, he will look to protect our elite soils while supporting growth in the already- zoned growth cells around our main towns and rural settlements. Waipa¯ has well-planned areas for future growth and Waipa¯ is an area people choose to live, work and play in.

As a council we have worked hard to keep rates down, while providing our ratepayers with projects they have lobbied for. Thames Coromandel District Council has rates double those of Waipa¯ .

“I am firmly against the Three Waters proposal as well as the proposed housing intensification. Waipa¯ will not be better off if these two proposals are enacted. Our waters are well managed and investment has been spent to ensure they are of the highest standard.

“The housing intensification proposal will put pressure on infrastructure and change the present character of some streets.

“Our planners have in the past been careful to manage the best use of land available whilst retaining existing character,” says Bruce.

“Our next council needs stability and . . . I look forward to being involved with a team of constructive elected members.”
