Roll call of Kiwi talent on tour in new band

Band brings mix of fresh songs, NZ classics

-

Anew Kiwi band with outstanding pedigree hits the road shortly to showcase new material and their own downunder classic hits.

Eddie Rayner, Andrew McLennan and Patrick Kuhtze have played guiding hands in a roll call of classic downunder bands such as Split Enz, Coconut Rough, Pop Mechanix and The Swingers.

And now, in support of their impressive self-titled debut album, Auckland-based Another Life will perform at a venue near you.

The good news is we have two copies of their self-titled debut CD Another Life up for grabs for you to join in this celebration of Kiwi music from a band that not only also has an eye to the future but also gives a respectful nod to Kiwi music past.

Another Life expands to a five-piece for live shows, with talented bassist Dan Antunovich and brilliant axeman Justin McLean joining the core trio to add icing to crowd favourites from their combined back catalogues.

Says Eddie Rayner: “We’re having so much fun creating new music and reinterpreting some of the old hits we’ve been involved with throughout our career. This tour will provide huge enjoyment for the band and audience. We’ve got several nights of great music in sweaty rock club venues to look forward to!” So, what can we expect to see unleashed on the night?

Another Life’s self-titled release contains some real stunners among its 10 tracks. In fact, it’s a very listenable to album indeed, with several songs already being well familiar to followers on YouTube.

There’s the ominously titled yet very catchy I Know Where You Live, as well as Cabin Fever, Some Days, Day Fall, Show Me How, Laugh About It, Hiding In Public, Another Life, Never Again Till Next Time and Forever In A Daze.

That’s a party in itself, but wait there’s more!

Here are just some of the notable songs this talented troupe of troubadours have helped create in days gone by.

From The Swingers there was One Track Mind and who can forget Counting The Beat.

Pop Mechanix pumped out such tunes as The Ritz, Jumping Out A Window, Celebration Of The Skin and Pale Sun.

Coconut Rough had the country rocking out to the likes of Magic Hour, Strip The Reptile, Go Home And Stay Home, Movie 2, Monkey Puzzle, Deedle Dance and the iconic Sierra Leone.

And it’s often said that certain bands were the songbook of a generation — well, we think Split Enz were the songbook of a nation.

With such memorable tunes as My Mistake, I See Red, I Got You, I Hope I Never, Nobody Takes Me Seriously, What’s The Matter With You, Poor Boy, One Step Ahead, History Never Repeats, I Don’t Wanna Dance, Hard Act To Follow, Iris, Dirty Creature, Message To My Girl, Strait Old Line and Six Months In A Leaky Boat — the biggest challenge Another Life will have is what to leave out and what to include for a night of rocking good entertainment that sadly will too soon have to come to an end.

Regardless, you can rest assured you have the makings of one stellar night of Kiwi music!
