Te Awamutu recently hosted the King Country Championsh­ips which included nine clubs from as far south as Taihape.

Te Awamutu men’s and women’s teams were both successful in winning the Gross Teams Cups: Mens Team — Clint Rowe, Aaron Vanderpoel, Stuart Towers and Clayton Stewart. Women’s Team — Gemma Towers, Mary Wano, Ani Bahler and Jenny Towers.

Gemma Towers also took Gross honours in the Ladies Silver division. Our combined men’s and women’s nett teams were runners up in the Pittams competitio­n, those players were — Toni Coleman, Pauline Chisholm, Jeanie Kay, Raewyn Coleman, John Mortland, Robert Wetere, Allan Duncan and Kelvin Trass.

Ladies nine-hole:

Zoe Hunter 19 stableford; Kathlyn Rose 18; Phillipa Wood 17; Karen Corkill 17.

The ladies’ 18-hole contingent played an entertaini­ng game of rabbits with Jenny Towers, Raewyn Coleman and Angela Thomson comiing through as the convincing winners.

Midweek:

Last Sunday — the day before coring started, players were at the mercy of the Greenkeepe­r with some interestin­g tee and pin placements.
