TA referees gather for prizegiving

Annual dinner and prizegiving held

-

Te Awamutu Rugby Referees Association held their annual dinner and prizegiving at the Te Awamutu RSA on Saturday. Andrew Bowe, Waikato’s match official and compliance game developer, was the group’s guest for the night, and they would like to thank the RSA for hosting them.

At the event, wives and partners were thanked for being there to support the referees.

President Andrew “Youngie” Young, who has served the association for a long time, is standing down as president, and the referees would also like to thank him for his many contributions.

Being a small association, the TARRA had just one award to give out, and this was for Most Improved Referee. This year’s winner, after deliberation from fellow members, was Grant Cotterell, following a good club season with whistle in hand, and he was also awarded life membership to the Waikato Rugby Referees Association. Grant is one of the longest serving referees in the Waikato, after refereeing his first Gwynne Shield match in 1984.
