Brigade steps up for Lions

Pirongia crew help put up banner for centenary event

-

When the Mt Pirongia Lions were challenged with the setting up of the banner to promote the upcoming Pirongia Memorial Hall celebrations, it was the Pirongia Fire Brigade that came to their rescue.

Pirongia chief fire officer Roan Gouws was quick to offer help with his team and within 20 minutes the banner was tied down and plain to see for all passing by.

Over the past two months a local organising committee, led by the local Heritage Centre, has been active in preparing plans for November 19, for the community to celebrate 100 years since the hall was built in memory of the local soldiers who fought in both world wars.

A picnic event will be held at the hall, where school children will present live and static performances commemorating the event.

People attending have the option of bringing their own lunch or buying food on offer. The event will run from 10am until 4pm.

The main part of the day will be between 11am and 2pm during which time the children’s events will be featured, the soldiers remembered, the centenary celebrated along with the lunch being enjoyed.
