Chance to see some hot rods for a good cause

Cambridge’s Stragglers Rod& Kustom Club is expanding its popular Charity Custom& Classic CarDisplay this year into a two-day event for the hot rodding fraternity.

The main public show is at Mighty River Domain, Lake Karāpiro this Sunday from 9am2pm.

As well as one of the largest car shows inNewZeala­nd (more than 1500 vehicles regularly turn out for this event) there will be bikes and caravans on show, plus food and drink stalls and live music. Entry is by gold coin donation with all proceeds going to local community services and charities.

Stragglers are also planning a run for Saturday and dinner and dance Saturday night.

TeAwamutuR­od& Custom Club is supporting the event and is looking to have a large contingent of club cars on display on Sunday. The local club is also helping host a visiting group of 30 members and 16 cars from Hibiscus Rodders as part of their 40th anniversar­y year.

Membersarr­ive tomorrow and after breakfast Saturday will be checking out the impressive­C&R Industries Classic CarMuseum then cruising to the Te Awamutu clubrooms for lunch.

Both clubs will then head off for a shed raid before getting organised for Saturday night’s dinner and dance.

Stragglers arebringin­g their monthly Cambridge Cruise to Te Awamutu next week. The informal club nights take place on the first Wednesday of the month during daylight savingsmon­ths. Next Wednesday from about5pmho­t rodders will be cruising into Te Awamutu and parking around and near Storytelle­r Eatery& Bar. Cruise nights are a chance to check out hot rods, customs and classics.
