The annual Hinuera Sevens tournament took place on Saturday under the Kaimais at Wealleans Park, with Te Awamutu Sports securing a place in the bowl final.

Many Waikato rugby clubs were joined by travelling sides from Auckland and Bay of Plenty for both the men’s and women’s competitions.

The patchy weather didn’t deter the crowds, with plenty of individual brilliance and team magic on display.

Te Awamutu Sports boasted the likes of New Zealand Under-19 outside back Cody Nordstrom and fellow Waikato NPC pre-season squad member Latrell Smiler-Ah Kiong.

Sports played Mount Marlins (Mount Maunganui) who were led around the park by the likes of Bay of Plenty Steamers halfback Carlos Price in the bowl final.

The teams were tied at full-time and the match went to golden-point, with the Marlins taking out the trophy.

This weekend, TeAwamutuSports will head to the Hamilton Old Boys invitational tournament in Hamilton, action starts at 9am.
