“We had two men’s divisions, a women’s section, and a competition for junior golfers aged between 10 and 17.”

The tournament included $15,000 worth of prizes and received a large amount of sponsorship from business around the area.

Patrick Hape said the competition standard was high, and the overall winner, with a gross score of 65, was Herewini Hopepa.

“Out of a very strong field it turned out that the four major prizes were won by members of Stewart Alexander Golf Club, which was a hit with the locals.”

Junior golfer Blake Novak won the trophy for most stableford points overall, Damien Te Ao best nett, and Manaaki McCorkindale scored best nett in the junior section.

The tournament was so successful that organisers are planning to turn it into a twoday event next year.
