Te Awamutu Tennis Club’s open day in weekend

-

The Te Awamutu Tennis Club’s open day is happening this Saturday, September 23. This is an opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to come along and see what the club has to offer.

If you have been looking for an opportunity to introduce the sport to your children to see if tennis is the summer sport for them, then bring them along for a hit. We’ll have a coach on site on the day to arrange some fun activities and give them a taste of tennis.

There is a strong junior tennis programme available for children from primary to secondary school age.

As part of their club membership, the club offers training squads on Monday afternoons with a coach from 3.30 — 7.30pm (allocated times for different ages and abilities).

These squads run for 10 weeks in term four and again in the first term of 2024.

There are also opportunities to get involved in interclub at various levels through the club’s affiliation with Waikato Tennis.

For adults there are a number of opportunities throughout the week, depending on your skill set.

Whether you are looking to get back into tennis after a long break or are a seasoned pro who has just moved to the area, there are plenty of options to get involved.

An adult club night on Mondays from 6.30pm onwards is open for all adults wanting a social game, along with ladies’ doubles competitions on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

Advanced players are welcome to play in the Double Cup competition on Tuesday nights. Come along and have a chat to our Club Captain John who will advise you on the best options for you and/or your children, or phone John on 021 904 852.

The Te Awamutu Tennis Club has an affiliation with Kiwi Tennis, whose seasoned coaches provide fun, welcoming and encouraging coaching.

In addition to the Monday junior squads Kiwi Tennis also offers both children and adult coaching at the club on a Thursday afternoon/evening.

Please contact Pete Hoyland of Kiwi Tennis direct to enquire about costs and/or to book a space — 022 429 8155 or pete@kiwitennis.co.nz

Adult and family club memberships enable you access to the courts to play whenever it suits you best. And while we encourage full memberships, if you don’t think you’ll benefit from having your own access to the courts and just want to have a hit with the ladies on Tuesday nights for example, then you will only need to pay a user pays fee to participate for the season.

We have both adult and children’s rackets available for use on the day if needed.

The Te Awamutu Tennis Club is run by a committee of volunteers. If you are keen to get involved in helping make this our best tennis season yet, please get in touch with Club President Warren Beck, 0274 724 677.

So, dust off your tennis shoes, grab your racket, and get ready for a season of fun and fitness.
