Set your stopwatch and experience Waitomo like you never have before with The Hits Waitomo Trail Run on Saturday, November 4. Experience breathtaking scenery as you run through the landscape Sir Peter Jackson described as “way too pretty for The Hobbit”.

Lace-up your shoes and embark on an epic adventure through the breathtaking landscapes of Waitomo, over and underground.

In its first year on board as naming rights sponsor, The Hits is here to ignite your passion for trail running or walking like never before with The Hits Waitomo Trail Run.

“The Hits are thrilled to be teaming up with the Waitomo Trail Run as the naming rights sponsor for the first time,” The Hits general manager Harriett Whiting says.

“We’re proud to be the soundtrack to many of our listeners’ training runs and walks, and on race day we’ll be turning up the volume with epic music and have The Hits stretch station too!

“We can’t wait to see many of our awesome listeners there.”

Picture yourself immersed in nature’s wonderland, conquering rugged terrain, lush forests and magnificent underground caves.

With trails ranging from 6km, perfect for families with young children, to a challenging 35km, there’s a run or walk to match every level of fitness and ambition.

A highlight of the 6km event is starting deep underground at the entrance to the Ruakuri Cave as it takes you up the spiral staircase into Ruakuri Reserve, where you will run underneath towering limestone formations, over bridges and under short tunnels to the easy and flat Waitomo Trail to the finish line at the Waitomo Glowworm Visitors Centre.

The 11km trek starts and finishes on Stubbs Farm and traverses a karstrich landscape, climbs over some limestone rock and runs through beautiful native bush on the QEII block.

The two longest distances start at Mangapohue Natural Bridge, and traverse the most unique geological line in New Zealand.

The 21km race finishes on Stubbs Farm and the 35km event continues on to finish at the Waitomo Glowworm Visitors Centre. Runners and walkers will pass through the deep forested gorge of the Ruakuri Caves and Bush Scenic Reserve. Whether you’re a seasoned trail runner seeking an adrenaline-fuelled challenge or a beginner, The Hits Waitomo Trail Run has got you covered.
