Picture yourself immersed in nature’s wonderland, conquering rugged terrain, lush forests and magnificent underground caves.
With trails ranging from 6km, perfect for families with young children, to a challenging 35km, there’s a run or walk to match every level of fitness and ambition.
A highlight of the 6km event is starting deep underground at the entrance to the Ruakuri Cave as it takes you up the spiral staircase into Ruakuri Reserve, where you will run underneath towering limestone formations, over bridges and under short tunnels to the easy and flat Waitomo Trail to the finish line at the Waitomo Glowworm Visitors Centre.
The 11km trek starts and finishes on Stubbs Farm and traverses a karstrich landscape, climbs over some limestone rock and runs through beautiful native bush on the QEII block.
The two longest distances start at Mangapohue Natural Bridge, and traverse the most unique geological line in New Zealand.
The 21km race finishes on Stubbs Farm and the 35km event continues on to finish at the Waitomo Glowworm Visitors Centre. Runners and walkers will pass through the deep forested gorge of the Ruakuri Caves and Bush Scenic Reserve. Whether you’re a seasoned trail runner seeking an adrenaline-fuelled challenge or a beginner, The Hits Waitomo Trail Run has got you covered.
