Toogood returns to perform at Stallions

Will give a live acoustic show at Stallions

- Jesse Wood

Shihad frontman Jon Toogood will return to perform another live acoustic show at Stallions Te Awamutu, supported by local one-man band and live-looping artist Mike Conlon, on March 16, next year following on from a successful show earlier this year.

Toogood has been enticed to Te Awamutu again by Conlon, with a share of the proceeds from the night going to local charity Loving Arms.

Loving Arms is made up of a group of people who are passionate about helping new mums and their families not only survive but thrive.

They help and support new families with essential items, clothing and more costly items such as cots and car seats.

“For Toogood, it’s a nice easy show with a good atmosphere and I do all the marketing for him. He can just rock up and have a good time. Everyone wins,” Conlon says.

Conlon says that bringing these sorts of shows to Te Awamutu makes it accessible for everyone.

“It’s intimate, you get to talk to these guys if you want to. Whereas if you go to a show elsewhere, you’re probably just in the crowd at the back. It gives a real, authentic and personal feel to the show. It’s pretty relaxed.”

Toogood is the lead singer and founding member of New Zealand rock band Shihad who, with the release of their latest album Old Gods reaching No 1 on the New Zealand music charts, now hold the record for most No 1 albums by any artist in New Zealand chart history.

During his 30-plus years in the music industry, Toogood has played shows all around the world with artists such as AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Metallica and Guns N’ Roses, and has gone on to write more New Zealand radio hits than any other artist in New Zealand music history. He is also the musician behind New Zealand supergroup The Adults, has presented Planet of Sound on Radio Hauraki and is an inductee of the RIANZ NZ Music Hall of Fame.

After all this Toogood will now and then head out on the road by himself with just his trusty Martin acoustic guitar, a bunch of songs he loves and the sometimes hilarious stories behind them to perform what is sure to be a super intimate, special night of music, laughter and singalong

ball-tearers that fans of all ages will love.

Conlon is a local singersongwriter and multiinstrumentalist on the verge of releasing and promoting his brand of original music to New Zealand and beyond.

His high-energy live looping and live sound engineering style of music is like something you have never seen before.

Conlon will take the stage first followed by Toogood.

Doors will open at 5pm with music starting at 8pm. Sitdown meals are available (preshow) between 5pm-7pm, booking will be essential. Bar menu available after 8pm. Contact Stallions Te Awamutu, 07 871 7282.

Conlon hopes that in the future he’ll be able to lure one or both of the Finn brothers back to their hometown to perform.
