Sick Of It All returning with hot, new album

Win a copy of new CD ahead of Galatos show

-

Wow! Sick Of It All fans are over the moon with the announcement that the NYHC stalwarts are making a most welcome return to Kiwi shores.

To the uninitiated who are unfamiliar with what New York hardcore sounds like — the vocals are shouted and there are plenty of sing along choruses. The lyrics are both personal and political. The guitar riffs are metallic with chugging breakdowns. The drums alternate between pummelling speed and slower grooves.

SOIA are the embodiment of that sound and have been belting it out consistently for over 30 years.

They have a new offering to mark their return to Fat Mikes Fat Wreck Chords in the form of Wake The Sleeping Dragon!.

It’s nearly 34 minutes of blistering NYHC and we’re offering you a chance to win a copy as the ideal precursor to their much-anticipated Auckland show.

Great songs abound on this album from the attentiongrabbing opener Inner Vision, the tribute Crazy White Boy Sh*t, the topical Robert Moses Was a Racist, the defiant To The Wolves, the seething title track Wake The Sleeping Dragon!, the ponderous Beef Among Vegans, the timely Deep State and Work the System and closer The New Slavery.

Their hardcore mastery is apparent in Always With Us. It’s a song for fallen friends, and it flat out rips. The melodic (SOIA style) Bull’s Anthem features vocals by fellow Fat alum Tim McIlrath from Rise Against. All are proof indeed that the lads from SOIA are, as one reviewer so aptly put it, not just surviving – they’re thriving.

SOIA continue to be the hardcore standard bearers. Wake the Sleeping Dragon! is not sensitive, subtle, nuanced singer songwriter fare. It’s aggressive, angry and in your face. In other words, it’s exactly what hardcore should be.

Add in previous Sick Of It All tracks such as Scratch The Surface, Step Down, Road Less Travelled, Injustice System, Take The Night Off, Just Look Around, World Full Of Hate, Clobberin’ Time, My Life and Relentless and this will be a night that will go down in history as one of the greatest hardcore nights of recent times.

Our recounting of the sheer synchronicity of our visit to the Garnett Ave Lotto and Post outlet in Te Rapa and by chance meeting Garreth Steiner, bassist for the main support Drop Off Point resonated with many. And no wonder, these local hard hitters have such great tracks to their name as By Your Side, Rat Race, People Die, Voices, Hardcore Pride and Papamoa Alleyways to name but a few.

Support local, travel regional, experience international. Make Galatos your Drop Off Point to catch Sick Of It All – the most successful NYHC export on planet earth.
