ocal Pāterangi School has welcomed a state-of-the-art modular-build classroom, built and delivered by Buildsmart in Huntly. The rural school’s principal CarolLynn Hill expressed great joy at the latest addition to the school.

The sleek and modern modular build classroom, named “Pūriri”, arrived on the school grounds in the early hours of February 2.

Pūriri is named after one of New Zealand’s native trees known for its large and colourful flowers.

The classroom has been aptly named the Millennium Tree, signifying new beginnings and growth for both the students and the school as a whole.

“The classroom is a wonderful addition to our beautiful school and the name, Pūriri, fits in with the rest of our classrooms which are also named after New Zealand native trees,” Hill said.

The children at Pāterangi School were abuzz with excitement on Friday morning when they arrived at school to see the new classroom standing high up on its temporary piles. The classroom will not be ready for another four to five weeks and the children in the Pūriri room (including teacher Anne Reihana) are eagerly excited about exploring their new learning space.

“This new classroom represents a commitment to providing our tamariki with the best possible environment for their learning. Pūriri is not just a classroom; it’s a symbol of progress and strength. It has been a long time coming and I am thrilled it is finally here,” Hill remarked.

“I am so happy for our tamariki. I think it is so appropriate that Anne is the first teacher to use the new classroom as she has been teaching at Pāterangi School for over 32 years.”

The innovative design of the modular build classroom by Buildsmart will provide a dynamic and engaging learning environment for tamariki. The modern design reflects the dedication of the school’s leadership, the Ministry of Education and the broader community to investing in quality education.

Pūriri stands tall as a testament to the school’s commitment to nurturing the growth and development of its students, fostering a love for learning in a space designed for success.
