I believe if you come here once, you’ll fall in love. Moshif Hussain, Te Kawa Delish codirector

Te Kawa Delish co-director Moshif Hussain says you’ll never go hungry at the new Te Kawa Crossroads-based cafe´ and takeaway shop. The business opened three weeks ago, halfway between Te Awamutu and torohanga and has an original menu created by chef and co-director Mohammed Yasin.

“People get lost in our menu, they drown in it, because it’s a dine-in menu but in a takeaway,” Hussain says.

The Te Kawa Delish menu hosts a variety of options including Chinese fusion, Indian, seafood and fish and chips, but right now “burgers are booming”.

The pair love food and feeding people. They don’t compromise on quality which extends to their customer service.

Hussain has owned many businesses but a restaurant has always been on his bucket list.

He has combined that dream with his deep affection for the local area, having grown up on farms in the greater Te Awamutu and torohanga region.

Hussain attended Kio Kio School, Kōrakonui School and Wharepapa South School before the move to Te

Awamutu College.

He believes the food’s quality and taste make Te Kawa Delish stand apart from other food businesses.

“I’ve been in the Te Awamutu area for the past 23 years. Mohammed has been here about 11 months,” Hussain says.

“Mohammed is an enthusiast about feeding people in the right manner with the high-class quality that he served in five-star resorts.

“It’s an art to him and he’s really good at his job.”

Yasin has had plenty of experience throughout New Zealand working at hotels, restaurants and pubs in the Waikato, Christchurch, Dunedin, and Auckland.

He also has overseas experience at Pacific tourist destinations such as Fiji, Samoa and Rarotonga.

“He and his wife Monisha are both chefs and we get our pastries from Monisha. Mohammed handles the kitchen and I do the business,” Hussain says.

“We believe that everyone’s money is hard earned. If you’re going to buy food you need to be satisfied with it. We make everything fresh and get our vegetables delivered fresh every day.

“The experience of the food that Mohammed has created is different from other places.

“Our motto is, if you walk in and we’re closed, we’ll still feed you. You won’t go hungry with us. I believe if you come here once, you’ll fall in love.”

Te Kawa Delish is located at 686 torohanga Rd, Te Kawa Crossroads and is open from 11am to 8pm Tuesday-Sunday.

Catering options are available but customers¯mustO pick up their food.
