Club championship winners named
The last two weeks has been a busy time for Bowls Te Awamutu, alongside club days. The always-popular Magills Butchery Business House competition concluded with prizegiving on February 28.
The Mixed Club Championship Fours were played over two days, March 2 and 9, the Twilight Bowls3Five League evenings concluded on March 8 and the Waikato Umpires Open Triples Tournament was held at the club on March 8.
The Mixed Club Championships title was won by Terry Osment, Lynda Bennett, Nick Bartosiak and
Chris Osment, who stood in for Rex Temm in the final.
Runners-up were Judy Cato, Derek Corbett, Bernard McCarthy and Nevenka Drnasin.
The annual Umpires Open Triples Tournament is always popular, with 28 teams entering from Raglan, Te Kūiti, Beerescourt, torohanga, Tokoroa, Huntly, Rewa, Kihikihi, Cambridge Central, Pirongia, Claudelands, Taupiri, Piopio, Putāruru, Te Awamutu and the Hillcrest-based Waikato/Bay of Plenty Blind Bowlers.
This is an event that does not require players to be umpires, rather to support the umpires and the work they do.
The winning team from Te Awamutu was Bruce McGill, Judy Cato, Christine Ball and Wayne Mudford. They received the trophy from Bowls
Waikato Umpires co-ordinator Eileen Stephens (Raglan).
Runners-up were the Putāruru team of Katrina Ensor, Yvonne Carter and Jeff Anson.
Third-placegetters from Te Awamutu were Annette Shilton, Bev Simpson and Nevenka Drnasin.
The next big events for the club will be the Mixed Club Championship Triples on March 23-24 and the Rosetown Two-Day Classic Tournament Saturday - to be played on March 30-31.
