Kicks off with new sponsor Waipa Aluminium Security Doors and Flyscreens
Te Awamutu AFC is proud to have Waipa Aluminium Security Doors and Flyscreens as a new major sponsor for the 2024 Southern League senior football teams.
Owner Simon Whale took the opportunity for several reasons, but ultimately he sees the good the club does for the community and wanted to help support it.
His son Logan has been part of the club coming through as a junior, going through Te Awamutu College and is now in the Southern League squad, led by Joe Gifford.
Whale is pleased with the new uniform design and how smart the players look. He is anticipating a great season.
Club treasurer Hayley Roil set about designing a new style kit alongside Lotto with some input and inspiration from Te Awamutu being known as the Rosetown. Some consultation around the shirt was even had with the Rose Society who were blooming with smiles about the incorporation of roses in the design.
The Southern League under 23 side and first team had less than ideal starts in their season openers against tūmoetai going down 7-0 and 7-2.
The two young squads were commended on their never give up attitude. They are sure to bounce back.
The Under 23 game was potentially seen as an eye opener to the level of football being played and in the first team game, Joel Roil opened his account.
He was denied a hat trick from a screamer scored in an offside position.
The group travels to Unicol this weekend, whilst the rest of the senior club starts their season — six teams this year.
The Storyteller Eatery & Bar Over 35s host Ngāruawāhia at Anchor Park with a 2.45pm kick off on Saturday.
The J&J Construction and fencing squad face Waihi at The Stadium on Armstrong Ave at the same time.
The club’s two women’s teams start on Sunday with an 11am home game at The Stadium against Taupō and an away game in Huntly at 1pm.
