Anglers can haul in a cabin or cash

-

Keen fishermen and women are being urged to get their rods or kontiki out and get their entries in the Te Puke Fishing Club’s big competition.

Held over Labour Weekend, the fishing tournament is running for the 21st time this year and has some fantastic cash prizes up for grabs.

Committee member Stan Steel said there will be $1000 for the heaviest snapper and $1000 for the heaviest trout as well as cash prizes for all winning fish, including kingfish and kahawai divisions.

Entries cost $50 per angler and there was also a fantastic spot prize of a brand new Hounds cabin valued at $10,000, or alternatively $5000 in cash.

“They will have the choice of the cabin or cash,” Stan explained.

He said in order to take out that prize, the winner must be present at the prizegiving, which starts from noon at the club this Sunday, October 21.

“There will be live music, a bar and food available.”

An angler briefing would take place today, October 18, with the final entries to be received by 9.30pm tonight.

Fishing was scheduled for October 19 and 20.

Tickets could be purchased from the Te Puke Club on 573 9709 or Sportsworld Te Puke.

Stan said the competition could not go ahead without support from its generous sponsors.

“We have many sponsors and we will be promoting their goods and services over the weekend.”
